South Dakota Prescription Monitoring Program

Data Submission Required by State Law

SDCL 34-20E authorized the South Dakota State Board of Pharmacy to establish the South Dakota Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (SD PDMP). Administrative Rules (ARSD 20:51:32) have also been adopted for this program. Pharmacies and practitioners that dispense any Schedule II, III, and IV controlled substances in South Dakota or to an address in South Dakota must electronically report such dispensing to the SD PDMP starting on December 12, 2011.

The SD PDMP promotes public health and safety and helps improve patient care. Practitioners and pharmacists will have secure 24/7 access for reviewing patient prescription histories to help determine appropriate medical treatment and referral needs.
